Golden Gate Bridge

Visit the Golden Gate Bridge! One of San Francisco's most famous land marks and one of the seven wonders of the modern world, this bridge spans about 1.7 miles and is a great place to view the Pacific Ocean up close, get some steps in, and take some picturesque photos with your family.

Alcatraz Island

Come on over and pay a visit to Alcatraz Island! Located 1.25 miles offshore from San Francisco in San Francisco Bay, this island is the sight of the infamous prison that once housed notorious prisoners such as Al "Scarface" Capone and the "Birdman" Robert Stroud. Don't worry, this prison is LONG out of business, it operated from 1934 until 1963. Aside from its prison, “The Rock” offers an up-close look at the site of the first lighthouse and US built fort on the West Coast, and the monumental 18 month occupation by Indians of All Tribes. Because it is an island, you must book a boat to and from the island, or you could just swim. Seriously! If you are a good open-water swimmer you can participate in the Esacpe From Alcatraz challenge where you have to swim the distance from Alcatraz to San Francisco in frigid water. Sounds like fun, right?

Golden Gate Park

Come to Golden Gate Park to have all kinds of fun! Visit Claud, the albino alligator at the California Academy of Sciences and other unique plants, animals, and exhibits. At the de Young you can marvel over the beautiful masterpieces of fine art and then walk over to the Conservatory of Flowers or the Japanese Tea Garden to see all the breathtaking exotic plants. On Sundays, you can ride your bike all over the park without having to worry about the cars. You can have a picnic in Hellman Hollow or see the bison in the Bison Paddock. Maybe paddle a boat in Stow Lake or ride some horses from the Bercut Equitation Field? Fun is just on the horizon!

Baker Beach

Play in the surf and sand at Baker Beach! Take a walk on the beach, splash in the waves, or build a sandcastle. You can walk to the beach from Seacliff or from Lincoln Bvld. Insider Tips: Use the California Costal Trail to get to the parking lot from Lincoln Bvld. The area closest to the Golden Gate Bridge is a clothes optional zone, so be aware. Lobos Creek runs right into the Ocean at Baker Beach and forms a little stream. It is towards the south side of the beach near the steps from Seacliff, and it's a great place to take the kids to paddle. Crowded? Head to China Beach down the coast, Baker Beach's little known cousin.
